Waltham, Mass., July 16, 2009 -- QinetiQ North America announced today that the Coral Springs, FL Police Department has purchased and taken delivery of a new GEN IV TALON SWAT robot. Their TALON is specially equipped for scenarios frequently encountered by police SWAT units. In particular, the Coral Springs TALON is one of the first equipped with a new state-of-the-art Two-Way Hailer. This loud speaker system enables two-way audio transmissions at a distance of more than 2,600 feet (800 meters). The Coral Springs TALON SWAT robot also has a new digital radio system that supports enhanced reception, even in cluttered environments. It also has the new “extended” reach capability of 7 feet rather than 5 feet. All TALON robots also are equipped with three high-resolution, infrared-assisted cameras and a 300:1 pan/tilt/zoom camera mounted on a power mast. “The Coral Springs Police Department chose the TALON for several operational reasons,” their spokesman said. “The TALON’s speed and ease of deployment make it a valuable resource as soon as it is on scene. The ability of the TALON robot to be equipped with a loud hailer and two-way communications makes it a great tool for barricade/HRT operations and negotiations with suspects. “We have used it as a clearing tool before sending operators in to clear locations where there may still be other suspects present. It saves a lot of time when conventional clearing must be used on locations. One of the primary reasons that the Coral Springs Police Department chose the TALON system is the high level of support and customer service provided by TALON.” About QinetiQ North America
