FluidScan-H Handheld Oil Condition Monitor

FluidScan-H is a rugged, handheld mid-infrared spectrometer for chemical analysis that can deliver real-time oil condition assessments based on ASTM Standard E2412-04.  It detects lubrication contamination, degradation and cross-contamination at the point of use by measuring key oil condition parameters in both synthetic and petroleum-based lubricants and hydraulic fluids.  FluidScan-H is available with a disposable IR sampling card or standard  sampling reservoir.

FluidScan-H operates on three rechargeable AA batteries for up to 8 hours and has a user friendly touch pad and a graphical results display.  Results are provided to the user within 60 seconds.  Storage capacity for more than 10,000 oil samples with their associated equipment information is built into the device while external data archiving and retrieval is also available for real-time viewing.

How it Works
Less than 1 ml (1/30th of an ounce) of fluid sample is either injected into a sample reservoir or placed on a disposable sample card.  An IR spectrum is then collected and processed in less than a minute.  Oil condition results are displayed for the user along with recommended maintenance action.

The results are calculated based upon procedures established by the Joint Oil Analysis Program Technical Support Center (JOAP-TSC) for used oil analysis.   Analytical data for lubricant and fluid samples is displayed on a color screen and can be stored in memory for trending or downloaded to a central database.  The software also provides data logging, trending, warnings and alarm condition alerts.

Benefits
FluidScan-H provides real-time, on-site determination of lubricant properties, accurately warning when it is time to change the lubricant due to contamination or degradation.  The primary benefits are:

  • Lengthens oil change intervals
  • No wait for the analysis
  • Reduced operational and maintenance costs
  • Reduction in unscheduled maintenance outages
  • Prevention of catastrophic failures
  • Reduction in hazardous waste

Major features include:

  • Comparable results to laboratory FTIR spectrometers
  • Enables on-site analysis
  • Contains patented optical waveguide technology
  • Self-calibrating
  • Analysis in less than 1 minute
  • Measures key oil condition parameters including:
    • Total Base Number (TBN)
    • Total Acid Number (TAN)
    • Oxidation
    • Nitration
    • Sulfation
    • Incorrect lubricant
    • Additive depletion
    • Soot
    • Glycol/antifreeze
    • Water
